Privacy Policy

Overview

Iceland Trip Guide ("we", "us", "our") operates icelandtripguide.com. This policy explains what information is collected when you use the site, who collects it, and the choices you have. We keep our own data collection to a minimum, but some third-party services we use (analytics, advertising and our booking partner) collect data as described below.

Information we collect

We do not ask you to create an account, and this site does not currently ask for your name, email address, password or payment details. Information is collected in these ways:

  • Google Analytics data (cookies only if you allow it) — pages visited, session duration, approximate location and device type, collected by Google Analytics 4. If you allow analytics, it uses cookies with pseudonymous identifiers. If you decline, Google Analytics may still receive limited signals that do not use analytics cookies, such as the page address, the time of the visit and general browser and device details, through Google's consent mode. The address of the page you visit can be part of this data; search words are removed from the first page address sent to Google, but please do not put personal information in web addresses. We use this data in aggregate to improve the site.
  • Aggregate usage statistics (Vercel) — pages viewed, referrer, country, device and browser type, page-speed measurements and counts of key actions, measured with Vercel Web Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. Vercel states that Web Analytics works without third-party cookies and groups visits by a value derived from the incoming request, which it discards after 24 hours; this site sets no cookie for these tools. The key actions we count are: that a search was made, with a general category, whether results were found and a rough number of results, but never the words you typed; views of tour, experience and guide pages; the steps you reach in the availability preview, with a rough party size such as "3-4" but not the date, option or price you chose; and clicks through to our booking partner Viator. We remove search words from page addresses before they are sent to Vercel, and we do not add your name, email address or other personal details to these events. We do not claim these statistics are anonymous: the request that carries them reaches Vercel, which receives technical data such as the IP address of your connection when it delivers the site. Please do not put personal information in the search box or in web addresses. These statistics are collected whether or not you allow Google Analytics.
  • Advertising data — when ads are shown, Google and its advertising partners may collect information such as your IP address, device and browser details, the page you are viewing, and cookie or device identifiers. See "Advertising" below.
  • Standard web server logs — IP addresses and browser types, retained briefly for security and diagnostic purposes only.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

Some pages of this site may show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and participating ad technology providers may use cookies, local storage or similar technologies to serve and measure ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and prevent fraud.

Personalised ads are based on interests inferred from your visits to this and other websites. Non-personalised ads are based on context, such as the page you are viewing and your general location; they may still use cookies or similar technologies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention. Limited ads do not use cookies or local storage for advertising. Which kind you see depends on your location and your choices.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, Google shows a consent message on our behalf using a Google-certified consent management platform (CMP) that supports the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF). Your choices there decide whether Google and its partners may store information on your device and use data for personalised advertising and related purposes. Before you make a choice, this site tells Google that advertising storage and ad personalisation are not permitted.

You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services in Google's partner sites policy, and turn off personalised ads from Google in Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.

Third-party services

  • Viator — Tour and experience listings are sourced from Viator via their Partner API. When you continue a booking, you are handed over to Viator's website, and any information you provide there is governed by Viator's privacy policy, not ours. We do not place ads on tour detail pages or in the booking steps.
  • Google Analytics 4 — If you allow analytics, we use GA4 to understand aggregate site usage. You can also opt out using Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
  • Vercel — Our hosting provider. Vercel also runs the usage statistics and page-speed measurements described under "Information we collect". Vercel states that Web Analytics identifies visits with a hash created from the incoming request instead of third-party cookies, and that this visit value is discarded after 24 hours. How these tools handle data is described in Vercel's Web Analytics privacy documentation.
  • Google AdSense — Google's advertising service, which may show ads on some pages. Google's use of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site and the services it uses may store the following in your browser:

  • Your privacy choice — a small local storage entry (itg_consent) that remembers your analytics choice, so we do not ask again on every page.
  • Your language — a first-party session cookie (NEXT_LOCALE) that remembers which language version of the site you are viewing. It is deleted when you close your browser.
  • Analytics cookies — set by Google Analytics 4 only after you allow analytics.
  • Advertising cookies and local storage — set by Google and its partners when ads are shown, depending on your location and choices, as described under "Advertising". Google's consent tool also stores your advertising choices in your browser.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site will still work, but you may be asked for your choices again.

Your privacy choices

Use the "Privacy choices" link in the footer at any time to allow or decline analytics, or to change an earlier choice. Declining stops Google Analytics from setting analytics cookies and removes the Google Analytics cookies already stored for this site.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, you can review or withdraw your advertising choices through Google's consent message. When it is available to you, "Privacy choices" also shows an "Ad privacy settings" button that reopens it.

Wherever you are, you can manage personalised ads from Google in Google's Ads Settings and control cookies through your browser.

Declining Google Analytics does not switch off the Vercel usage statistics and page-speed measurements described under "Information we collect". Vercel states that these work without third-party cookies; this site sets no cookie for them.

Affiliate links

Iceland Trip Guide participates in the Viator affiliate programme. When you book through our links, we may earn a commission. This does not affect the price you pay on Viator. Affiliate parameters are appended to booking links automatically. Affiliate links and the booking handoff to Viator are separate from the advertising described above.

Data retention

Event-level analytics data in Google Analytics is retained according to our Google Analytics data-retention setting (at most 14 months for standard Google Analytics properties). Vercel keeps usage statistics at least for the reporting window of our Vercel plan (Vercel documents windows of 1 to 24 months depending on the plan) and may keep them longer. Your privacy choice stays in your browser until you change it or clear your browser storage. Data collected by Google for advertising is retained under Google's own policies. We do not maintain our own database of visitor records.

Your rights

Under GDPR and other applicable data protection laws, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, or to object to its processing. We do not keep our own records that identify individual visitors; for data processed by Google, you can also use Google's privacy tools. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy occasionally. Material changes will be posted on this page with a revised date. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
