Start with your travel season and the part of Iceland you want to see. The Golden Circle offers geysers and waterfalls close to Reykjavík; the South Coast requires more travel time but includes some of the country’s most dramatic coastal landscapes.

Northern Lights excursions depend on darkness, cloud cover and solar conditions, so sightings are never guaranteed. Glacier hikes and ice cave trips should be taken with qualified local guides, with the required safety equipment.

Compare the departure point, total duration, pickup arrangements, age limits and cancellation rules before booking. For a self-drive holiday, check road and weather conditions regularly and do not assume a normal rental car can use highland F-roads.
