3-Day Wild and Wonderful Tour of Westfjords - Small Group Tour

You’ll see the wilder side of Iceland on a three-day expedition around the remote Westfjords. We’ll visit the picturesque bird cliffs at Látrabjarg, the multicolored beach at Rauðisandur, and the epic falls at Dynjandi. You’ll be wowed by the astonishing views of Hornstrandir and the Arctic Ocean as we drive the “Seven Fjord Road” from Ísafjörður before heading back to the capital. What more could you want? This is the most memorable week you could ever wish for in the “Land of Fire and Ice”!

Itinerary

1. 1

   Day 1 — From Reykjavík to the Edge Of Europe

   • Capital of the West Icelabn located in the City Fjord
   • This beautiful turf-roofed house was once home to Eirik the Red and his son Leif the Lucky, who sailed to America long before Columbus was born!
   • The gate to the Westfjords. Dozens of rocky islands fill up a small bay on the edge of Breiðafjörður Fjord.
   • Home to Þingmanná Waterfalls and stunning canyon
   • Then we’ll cross a towering mountain range called Kleifaheiði en route to Patreksfjörður area. There’s an intriguing sight to see at the top! The engineers who built the mountain road raised a 5-meter-high stone statue called Kleifabúi in their spare time, marking the high point of their work.
   • We’ll follow gravel paths cut into steep mountainsides until we reach the famous bird colonies and Bjargtangar Lighthouse at Iceland’s westernmost point. Cliff tops more than 440 meters above the surf and are at the Westernmost edge of Europe.

   Day 2 — Westfjord Highlights

   • Stranded fishing boat as old as the Titanic!
   • 10-kilometer-long beach at Rauðisandur with multicolored sands
   • Charming waterfall falling from the clifs
   • Instagram icon “A-House” serves as one of the best viewing points
   • The day’s highlight comes next – the wedding cake-shaped waterfall, Dynjandi. The Thunderer crashes down over 100 meters in a wonderful “waterfall ladder.”
   • Another photo opportunity awaits at Önundarfjörður Pier for outstanding views sourrounded by black sand beach and dunes

   Day 3 — Seven Fjords, Wildlife Spotting & Viking Longhouse

   • We will drive up Bolafjall (628m) where you can enjoy the view and walk on skywalk platform
   • Collection of turf-roofed buildings used in the old days by local fishermen
   • One of the most iconic lighthouses in Iceland with stunning views
   • From Ísafjörður, you’ll enjoy unforgettable views wherever you look as the road traces its way up and down seven breathtaking fjords!
   • Arctic foxes roam this area, so keep a close eye out for the only native land mammal in Iceland here! If you won´t have luck, you can still meet them at Arctic Fox Center and contribute to their protection
   • Hvitanes is one of the most accessible places to spot seals in the Westfjords, so we’ll take a look at these charming creatures here
   • Heading south, we’ll break the return journey to Reykjavík (ETA 8-9 pm). One last stop will be by Grábrók Volcanic Craters, where you can stretch your legs and walk up the stairs to multiple viewing platforms.
