Private Westman Islands: Volcano, Wildlife and Scenic Views

A private day on the Westman Islands, just for your group. Your driver-guide picks you up at your Reykjavik accommodation with a VAREN name tablet and helps with your bags. Your vehicle sails with you on the Herjólfur ferry, so you explore Heimaey at your own pace. Visit Eldheimar, the museum built around houses dug out of the ash of the 1973 eruption, then climb Eldfell, the volcano born that night, for views over the harbour and the lava field. Drive around the island to the best viewpoints and bird cliffs; from mid-May to August the islands are home to one of the largest puffin colonies in the world. In summer you can add a RIB ride into sea caves or a gentle boat tour around Heimaey. We book your ferry, museum and boat tickets. Water on request. Choose a private sedan for 1-3 travellers or a private van for up to 8. One price per vehicle.

• You will receive a booking confirmation right after you book. Please count everyone in your group, including children and infants, as everyone needs their own seat.
• This is a full day of about 12 to 13 hours door to door. Arriving by cruise ship? Please check your ship's all-aboard time before you book.
• A Herjólfur ferry ticket is required for every traveller and paid per person: adults 16-66 USD 43, teens 12-15 and seniors 67+ USD 21, children under 12 sail free. We book the crossing for your group and your vehicle.
• From Landeyjahöfn the crossing takes about 35 minutes. In winter or rough seas the ferry sails from Þorlákshöfn instead, about 2 hours 45 minutes each way, and we plan the day around it. If the ferry cancels, we move your tour or give a full refund.
• Eldheimar and the boat tours are optional and paid per person; we book them for you. Boat tours run from mid-May to September. Children pay reduced prices.
• Puffins nest on the islands from mid-May to August.
• The tour involves easy walks and a climb up Eldfell on loose volcanic gravel, so it is not suitable for guests with serious mobility limitations. Please bring warm, waterproof clothes and good shoes.
